Frequently Asked Questions

The short version. For the math behind the models and the full methodology, see Learn.

Is Fairline free?

Yes. The dashboard, model projections, fair odds, and flagged value plays are all free to read. You only need a free account if you want to log and track your own bets.

What sports does Fairline cover?

MLB, NHL, and the English Premier League, each with its own quantitative projection model.

How the models work
How often are projections updated?

A full pipeline runs several times a day per sport, and a background worker refreshes live sportsbook odds continuously before each game. Projections freeze once lineups and starters are confirmed; from that point only the book-side value detection can change.

How value detection works
Does Fairline use sportsbook lines to build its projections?

No. Every model is built from public statistics and computed before any book odds are fetched. Book prices are pulled separately, after the projection, only to flag value. The projection always stands as an independent opinion.

How value detection works
Are these picks? Am I guaranteed to win?

No. Fairline publishes statistical projections and fair odds, not guaranteed outcomes. Betting carries real risk, results swing widely over small samples, and you should only bet what you can afford to lose. If gambling is a problem, call 1-800-GAMBLER.

Why results swing
What do "fair odds" and "play to" mean?

Fair odds are the price at which a bet breaks even over the long run. The play-to price is the worst number still worth taking; anything better than it is a value bet.

How fair odds are calculated
How accurate are the models?

Each model is backtested against historical seasons before it ships, and is only trusted if it beats the vig on paper. The framework and parameters for every sport are documented on the model pages.

How the models work
Can I track my own bets?

Yes. Signed-in users can log any value play with one click, which pins the exact price shown at that moment, and the My Bets and History pages compute your record and closing line value from there.

What closing line value is
How do I find the value plays?

The dashboard lists every flagged value play as a single line sorted by edge, and game cards show a green badge when a play exists. Signed-in users can also opt into email alerts for the games they care about.

Do I need an account?

No. Reading the dashboard, projections, and value plays needs no account. A free account only unlocks logging and tracking your own bets.

Who is behind Fairline?

Fairline is an independent project built and run by a single developer. It is not affiliated with any sportsbook, league, or data provider.
